A strategic plan is simply the action plan that incorporates strategy and execution. It is taking an organization’s vision and creating tangible goals and tasks to work towards that vision. The complicated part of a strategic plan is the balance of what I call balcony thinking (which I teach during this module) and what I call weeds walking. Very few people have the ability to do both well. That is, take time to get on the balcony to identify all of the necessary key components and then get in the weeds to execute on those components.

In this module, we will identify the elements of a strong strategic plan, identify the appropriate key stakeholders to support the plan, and then solidify the what and how. You may ask, “Is it that simple?” I propose to you today, “Yes, it is that simple….and it is a muscle that has to be developed.”

Strategic planning involves seven key components that we will work through in our coaching:

Setting the vision

Defining your values

Identifying the right people

Revisiting A-Z

Establishing SMART goals and aligned tasks (long term and short term with clear timelines)

Identifying the strategy for the strengths and barriers

Communicating the strategic plan
