I have more than 25 years as a successful leader, innovator, entrepreneur, and coach. The key to my effectiveness as a coach is I have done the research, done the work and led large executive teams in being successful in doing the work. That balance allows me to share practical techniques and strategies that lead to maximum outcomes.

My primary body of work has been in the field of education. I am a teacher by nature, which has helped me tremendously as a coach and facilitator. I taught many years in the cities of Knoxville, Chattanooga, Millington and Memphis. After teaching, I enrolled at the University of Mississippi and then the University of Memphis, where I completed my doctoral studies in leadership and policy studies. I also hold advanced degrees in Mathematics, Educational Leadership, and Curriculum & Instruction. During that time and thereafter, I served as an adjunct professor for Christian Brothers University and the University of Memphis. 

I was the founding principal of STAR Academy College Preparatory Charter School. Under my leadership, STAR Academy received several recognitions including being named as the #1 Distinguished School for the State of Tennessee—twice!  This statewide recognition was based on our continued student achievement. Additionally, I opened one of the largest middle schools in Memphis City Schools. We received recognition by the state for our growth in achievement. I am so humbled to have worked alongside some of the most amazing administrators, teachers and parents to gain recognition in both schools. I attribute the success to our keen focus on one target: maximum educational, social and emotional success for all students. Though I taught high school for several years, I am equally proud to say that I was a school leader for ten years, serving K-8 students throughout the city of Memphis.

Currently, I am the Vice President of a non-profit organization focused on providing equitable opportunities for all students by professionally developing their teachers, school leaders and district level leaders. Our work is focused on marginalized communities. We are committed to ensuring students around the country have access to high quality instruction, assessments, data and materials  as well as helping schools and districts understand the role that race plays as a continued systemic barrier for students of color. I am honored to do this national work to advance equity for all students.

Civically, I am an active contributor to several community service projects and organizations. Alongside my siblings, I am the co-founder of the Ben & Linnie Young Foundation, which is a foundation focused on pointing people to a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. A branch of the foundation is the LTY Women’s Retreat. Both of these entities are in honor of my parents, the late Pastor Ben and Lady Linnie Thomas Young.

I am a certified Myers Briggs (MBTI) trainer, John Maxwell Leadership coach, and I have certified insurance licenses. My formal education and many leadership experiences have helped me be successful as an accomplished entrepreneur and coach.

As a woman of faith, I lead with my core values of integrity, humility and love. My philosophy is, “You must sacrifice the present to secure the future…..and the great news is the sacrifice is not forever!” I have learned from others as well as my own experience, the value (and discipline) of securing the future.
